Postby Blín D'ñero » 06 Jul 2011, 01:24

Patch 1.9, DirectX 11 Ultra Upgrade and High Resolution Texture Pack.

•Fixed issue in MP where player stats weren't always saved at the end of a game
•Fixed issue in MP where player stats would sometimes randomly reset
•Fixed issue with MP time played statistic, which would sometimes be too low on leaderboards and in stats
•Fixed issue with JAW rocket not firing through window's containing broken glass
•Fixed rare issue where a user could not access MP with a valid CD key if they had previously used an invalid CD key
•Improved advanced graphics options menu
•Improved anti-cheat measurements: fixed exploit which could prevent vote kicking working against a user
•Improved multi-GPU support
•Improved Tone Mapping
•Re-added possibility to enable r_StereoSupportAMD via config file (unsupported)

DirectX 11 Ultra Upgrade

The DX11 Ultra Upgrade is a free visual improvement add-on introducing DirectX 11 support as well as a wealth of graphical improvements and performance optimization for both DX11 and DX9 API's.

When using the new “Ultra” spec, DX9 platforms will benefit from real-time local reflections and contact shadows. The owners of DX11 platforms, in addition, will be able to enjoy hardware tessellation (requires the installation of the “DX11 Ultra Upgrade”), parallax occlusion mapping and several improvements for shadows, water, particles, depth of field and motion blur.

High Resolution Texture Pack

This package provides higher texture resolution for a wide variety of assets. It supports both the DirectX 11 and DirectX 9 versions of Crysis 2. A 64-bit operating system and a graphics card with at least 768 MB of memory are required.

The performance in ultra setting, on my HD5870 crossfire / 1920 x 1200 system, differs VERY much per area.

Running around in Seat of Power, in that enormous crater with the tentacles, (just before the Hive), i got only between 23 and 33 frames per second, mostly 30.
Just before this part, squashing the insects hardly worked; it was too slow. In Extreme it of course went instantly, in Ultra most insects just crawled on.
Entering the hive core (the train wreckages etc it got better: between 32and 42 fps... playable, but it still didn't feel right.

During the game, looking in CCC showed disbalance: GPU1 = 98% GPU2 = 62% usage... or 99% / 47%... that's a second indication something's wrong.
Vsync off ingame and in CCC.
I suppose we'll see a CAP to fix it, this week.

It depends on factors apparently, it is different per level. Playing Ultra on other levels than that one goes very very well!

Aha, i see now from the Crysis 2 PC patch 1.9 FAQ
Having both installed and active:
Recommended:
o 64-bit Operating System
o Fast HDD or even SSD
o Quad Core CPU
o 8GB of RAM
o DX11 compatible graphic card with 1.5GB Video Memory

There are spots where you just need more than 1 GB apparently. Game is optimized for nVidia, so with their 1.5 GB cards in mind.

Another level -spot- where my 1 GB cards just can't avoid lag: 'Infiltrate Ceph - Litho ship and subvert the spore: enter the Structure', in Walk in the Park where the enemies use cloak themselves.

So, that's two areas in the game that really would justify an upgrade to HD6970 crossfire.

The performance in DX11 Ultra + High Res texture packs, on my HD5870 crossfire / 1920 x 1200 system, differs VERY much per area.
I just finished the game in Vetreran. Now started a new game in Post-human warrior mode, and watching it more closely.

Generally i get between 60 and 100 fps. I call that excellent.
In some areas though, it sinks to 40 - 35 average with 20 minimum. VERY annoying. Slight improvement is to be gained by temporarily enabling Vsync in these areas.

The game is very very beautiful But also with many little bugs and flaws and bad design decisions.
  • Misplaced checkpoint targets (the pale blue dots)... one to "go and meet Gould via FDR Drive" ((?) or similar), is floating in the air, impossible to reach it (i tried jumping from a container to hit it, and almost died in the fall), exactly 70 meters away from the actual checkpoint, deep down below on the sublevel street.
  • Also near that bugged checkpoint, were 3 guards waiting for me. Of course they're clones but they also stood exactly the same, in a row, deaf, and blind apparently (i didn't need to cloak) very easy to stealth kill them from behind, although there was no more than 1½ meter between them they didn't notice i took one after the other.
For the screenshots sake i reloaded from checkpoint, strolled to the same 3 guards, and yes they were there again but their previous corpses were also lying on the ground! :D
  • Many guards throughout the game seem deaf anyway, while my footsteps are clearly audible.
  • Wonky A.I.: many of them are just standing there, waiting to be killed. Don't notice me although i am near.
  • Aliens (squid) patrolling, suddenly start spinning very fast. Often this happens when they reach an alien corpse. Their body seems to interact with the corpse instead of just walking over it.
  • What looks like reflection in the pools of water on the streets has no relation whatsoever with the actual environment, they are two different worlds.
  • In the elevator towards Gould, when i am in cloak mode nevertheless Gould greets me and apparently is the only one who can see me in cloak without a tool... In fact no, he should see an empty elevator.
Next, in his living room, i shoot the glass from his aquarium yet the squid happily keeps swimming. But when the snipers start to shoot i cannot shoot back at them through the window (shooting at that point is disabled). I mean: make it right, or disable cloak and guns in Gould's apartment until you go back to the hall and other rooms.
  • The radiocontact messages between the mercs often make no sense to what just happened: when i just killed two of them, the third -who stood close by and should have noticed- may be heard saying: "no contact, everything's clear!"
In another situation i killed 4 of 5, the remaining guy says "All clear. False alarm" while walking passed his buddíes' corpses!
  • In the tunnel ("Head to the Wall Street Facility"), there's an alien cloaked. This being my second playthrough on Veteran, i have ability to see cloaked enemies, Yet this one stays cloaked. Moreover, he cannot be killed; when i approach him from behind, stealth kill does not exist. He doesn't react to being shot. Hitting him he notices the punches, but he doesn't die nor does he retaliate. A ghost to whom í am a ghost myself... :clown:
  • "Ahh..shit! You OK? Dammit, he's hit!" "We have a man down!" coming from a guard standing solitary, NOT with a mate's dead body. He's just saying that. While i'm standing by in cloak mode.
  • Many guards are extra easy to kill because they're standing / walking with their nose against a wall. In Veteran difficulty, as well as Post-human warrior.
  • Often a carried HMG when thrown to the ground for a second (just to have the hands free for a moment), falls right through a wall or floor, especially in elevators, to disappear unretrievable. (Whenever that happens, i restart from previous checkpoint because that thing is pure gold.)
Or, i throw down my HMG to go backtracking without its heavy load, only to come back and see it has disappeared.
  • The JAV in my inventory says it's 1 / 6. I don't know how it's possible but it just is. I use a few, but unfortunately get killed. Reloading the same savegame, i suddenly only have 1 / 3 JAV!
  • Bug: walk through the rubble (Reach Ceph Structure at Central Park). Get killed, so the starting point gets reloaded. Then you can get outside the gameplay area of the map and walk around through the basic city. This bug gets anchored in the savegame so i can reproduce it everytime.

It is NOT a hole in the rubble; the rubble is penetrable after loading the savegame. I have pictures. Although why would i bother posting them i suppose many players have seen the same.

Somewhat outside the center of the area, deep water comes in place (yes in the middle of New York) to swim in, and you (Alcatraz) swim under the building where Ceph are waiting for you. The building has no floor, there is no ground, you look up and see the creatures from below as if on glass. It is so weird. You can climb up 'ashore', that way you enter the normal level and continue game.

So many smaller bugs.
  • These ruined gameplay quite often! Only could reload and retry, hoping it didn't happen again.
    • Carried HMG, parked on the ground, then picking it up when needed and it does not shoot at all!
    • Carried HMG, parked on the ground, then trying to pick it up when needed but it has become a dead object that you can't pick up! And it disappears depending on the viewing angle.
    • Replaced (to a more strategic spot) gas tank just disappearing and popping up again depending on the angle of view, so you cannot shoot it where you're standing.
    • Attempting to replace (to a more strategic spot) a gas tank it immediately explodes when touching it. And yes i checked; it could not have been shot from a distance because everyone else was dead.
Because the checkpoints are so far apart, you have to do a lot before the next. That makes it extra frustrating if a strategically very well-played section is ruined just before the end because of one of the above getting you killed in the face. :xmad:

Re: Crysis 2 v1.9 incl Ultra and High-res textures pack

Postby Blín D'ñero » 07 Aug 2011, 14:07

At start of level "Infiltrate the Hargreave-Rasch building: Follow Chino"

For some reason, when i'm close to a waterfall, standing on top of one, looking at the streaming water it is Ultra low resolution. While i have everything set to "Ultra" and i expect Ultra High..
Wondering how that can be, i quit game, and re-loaded. I rushed to the water to determine that, yes, the same is still happening.
[And by the way, :vlol: i quickly took out the approaching aliens. Too quick for Gino apparently, because after they're dead, i still hear his voice shouting "Contact!". Looking for Gino, i find him and his mate still standing at the beginning of the level, not moving, nor reacting to me. I proceeded, and so Chino was following me.]

Uninstalling ~ reinstalling game + update + packs. Did not make any difference.
So:
  • another BUG / flaw: Streaming Water textures are ultra low resolution.
