Playing Splinter Cell: Conviction

Splinter Cell: Conviction.

Just started. I'm not enthusiastic sofar. Weird. All those "useability hints" on objects, walls, doors, it's not subtle anymore. When i attack by hand, or pull someone out of the window, a flashy red figure with beams appears in the right corner... supposed to underline action??? Enemies don't notice me even when i'm in the same room because i'm in a 'dark' area... but it doesn't look that dark at all. Who designed this crap.
Anyway, once accustomed to that it kind of gets fun.
But, too long sections between checkpoints in this game too.

Other weird stuff, also seen in other games: shot enemies launching like a missile; Sam can shoot through boxes (they stay intact, just his pistol totally disappears in the box's texture); enemies that constantly keep shouting around angrily so you know exactly where they are and how many till it's silent and you know you finished the last one; Grim's overly bouncing jellow tits (similar to Veronique's in The Saboteur), npc's stuck-walking against objects...

Update. It DOES get exciting. I was too impatient. It is thrilling to try to execute them all silently. It's been long since i last played a SC game, must get used to it again.

When headset-talking to Grim he suddenly can't run or duck or anything, just walk. :wth:

But then. The Iraqi level. That is great and well-done! And it seems with infinite ammo. It is looking very good too, the environment and objects, palmtrees and carwrecks, all very 'painturesque', the waving of trees and wires, realtime shadows, all very well done.

4th level, find Robinson.
AI's action is quite good, but their intelligence is, well, non-existant. Giving away their location keeping shouting "How stupid do you think we are? We're gonna stay right here!" "We're not going in there. Why don't you come to us, asshole!" "No way we're coming to you. How about you coming to us instead!" "Guess again asshole, we're not gonna wind up like those other guys!" on and on and on... till the last opponent standing has passed away.

Or (in another level): says the remaining single opponent after i killed his 3 buddies: "Guys stay alert, Fisher is dangerous".

Why can Sam only 'execute' (pinpoint accurate headshots) after he first manually killed someone 'hand-to-hand'? Why does he have to earn an auto-aimed 'execution' double-shot every single time. That is so annoying. :fp: It is facultative, i guess it is meant as a 'help' to move on quicker.

Nonetheless, the playing action is quite exciting.

The random conversations/discussions between bystanders, tourists, workers, etc are a nice environmental aspect; pity they're not endless.

The cutscenes are low quality, colors are off, much banding and aliasing, yet they have a stutter you'd only expect with heavily detailed high res material.

Starting to get a bit buggy:

1. Just before reaching "Reed's office", at the top of the stairs Sam suddenly can't walk further. Stuck at some invisible blockade. :D :fp:
Reed's voice from the room: "Look, Fisher, i can explain, i swear..." "He's gonna kill me." "Don't hurt me don't hurt me!" "Don't panic, but if you do don't panic." "Oh God stay back stay back!" Fisher, exactly 7 meters away outside the room at the top of the staircase: "I have exhausted all the possibilities around here..." Indeed. Just like Fisher during a headset conversation cannot do anything else than walking straight (no other movements), also when he is supposed to meet someone and talk he can only walk. And this means that there is no escape from this rediculous situation: if only he could walk forward towards Reed or back where he came from.
Exit to main menu > Continue story. Again Use Goggles, move through the room avoiding the beams.
This time it worked normally.

2a. I killed the first 3-guy squad, moved into dark behind desks, waited for the second squad, 4 guys, to enter the room and killed them too. I entered the corridor (into direction of Grim) where i forgot to activate the goggles, so that killed me.
2b. Auto-Reload put me back into Reed's office. This time the second squad was already in the hall  and had detected me, ran towards me, i killed them quickly, immediately followed by the 3 guys of the first squad. :inv:
2c. Again killed by the beams-triggered gun, reload put me back in Reed's office. This time only the 4-guys squad appeared, the 3-guys one doesn't exist anymore. :inv:
The beams in the room left to the corridor got me a few more times before i succeeded. What i so hate about checkpoint-only: multiple problems combined in one section. Die before the end, redo the whole section from scratch. :-|-:
Weeelll, anyway. Time to move on.

3. Alternative weapon may disappear. Halfway a mission, when you fail somewhere, for instance after planting the first of two C4's, it reloads right after planting the C4 so you can retry. But Sam's alternative weapon could then be gone. :-|-:
Or a light-tube you shot before is now burning again. But the bullet you spent on it is lost.

But hey: "Deniable Ops" is great fun!

"Get to the White House", ok.
Sneaking down the street, at some point Sam holsters his gun and starts walking straight up, any other movement disabled. I wish they stopped doing this. :-|-:
Happens at 36 m. Walking back 4 steps (at 39 m) he grabs his gun again and can sneak, run, or whatever movement.
Oh well it'll surely be "part of the plan"...

Cheapness LOL! Not only do Sam's steps in puddles on the street not produce any water surface effect (no ripple nor sound), but also the reflection of the waving american flag is stiff as a plank. :D

As seen before: the path to the White House: each say 30 meters a new squad is triggered, to a total of 3. When killed by the 3d squad, then reload, all 3 squads are already alerted.

Not that it's a problem... it's big fun to finish them all off, their alertness or lack thereof is very thrilling!
And, unbelieveable how many idiots you can grab and kill while hanging outside of windows! :D

In the White House, jumping over a table that has a vase with flowers in it, the vase will fall and roll over the floor but the flowers just disappear. :D

Finished! Very entertaining, smooth gameplay, a good game for sure.
Replaying...

It's easy. On 'Normal', but also on 'Realistic' whatever that's supposed to mean.
The actual focus of the game seems to be on the 'P.E.C. Challenges', a list of skills, your performance, and it rewards you with 'points'... I personally couldn't care less about them, the game is all i'm interested in.

Again, another 'walking' related bug.

On my second playthrough, i could walk, run, jump, sneak etc with gun out all the way until the exploding car.
From that moment on, Sam started the "straight-up" stiff walk. Which meant that at the gate he wasn't able to take cover behind the wooden plate against the fence in order to grab the first guard who is talking to the civilian... instead he was instantly detected.
